Simon leads our environmental law team and is also head of the firm's energy and utilities sector. He is also closely involved in the development of the firm’s ESG programme, both internally and externally.Our expert lawyers provide dedicated support and assistance to our energy, water, waste and resources and telecoms clients.
Our lawyers work closely with organisations including large utilities, project developers, funders, new energy services companies, local authorities, resource/waste companies, major energy consumers, and water/wastewater companies and telecoms operators providing commercially focused legal advice to help them benefit from the opportunities created by market regulation, policy and other market drivers.
Through access to our network of international firms, we can service domestic clients seeking to do business abroad or international organisations who are looking to do business in the United Kingdom.

EmpowerOur energy law experience
- Advising the Liverpool Combined Authority on the delivery of the proposed Mersey Tidal Power Project.
- Advising Liverpool City Council on the ESCO arrangements for the supply of heat and electricity to its multi-phase mixed use development at Paddington Village
- Advising a network operator in connection with the creation of the legal framework and documents for a multimillion pound development of a battery storage and gas generation site involving more than 600 potential development sites
- Advising a global corporation on the energy and infrastructure arrangements for a large UK based manufacturing facility after the owners of the nearby private wire power plant that generated/supplied our client’s operation with 100% of its power across a private wire network were put into compulsory liquidation. The matter involved engagement with a number of Government departments and bodies.
Our resources and waste experience:
- We are standing adviser to a Northwest waste collection and disposal authority, advising on its contractual arrangements for the collection and disposal of waste, as well as new regulatory requirements for the separate collection of food waste,
- Advising on the surrender of permits for closed landfill sites,
- Advising a WEEE exporter on appeals against the suspension and cancellation of its authorisation,
- Advising on the sale of landfill sites and the transfer of environmental risk and liability.
