Chris Powell has led Weightmans’ Road Transport Regulatory Practice since joining the firm in 2022. Under his leadership, the practice has grown significantly, developing into one of the firm’s core regulatory practice areas.

In addition to leading the regulatory practice, Chris also heads the firm’s wider Transport & Logistics Sector, with responsibility for the firm’s transport and logistics offering more broadly. As a result of his extensive experience across road transport regulation, compliance, investigations and sector leadership, Chris is widely regarded as one of the leading practitioners in this field.

Chris is an accomplished advocate and frequently represents operators, transport managers and senior individuals at Traffic Commissioner Public Inquiries nationwide. He is regularly instructed on complex, high‑risk and business‑critical matters, including licence revocations, curtailments, repute challenges and serious compliance failings, often where the consequences for clients are existential.

He and the team regularly support clients in the immediate aftermath of serious incidents, advising on regulatory exposure, governance, evidence preservation, and engagement with enforcement authorities, as well as managing parallel regulatory, investigatory and reputational risk.

Chris is a regular speaker at the Logistics UK flagship Transport Manager Conferences, the Public Service Logistics Conference, and other leading industry events. He is also a qualified transport manager and former Chair of the Transport Manager Forum of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT), giving him a rare combination of legal, regulatory and operational insight.

In addition to his advisory and advocacy practice, Chris has worked with the firm’s in‑house Product and Innovation team to lead on the development of Transport Manager Comply, a specialist transport compliance software product designed to support operators and transport managers with ongoing regulatory compliance.

He is a regular contributor to leading industry publications, including Commercial Motor and Motor Transport Magazine, and is widely recognised as a thought leader within the road transport regulatory sector.
